EBENEZER VINEYARD - BAROSSA VALLEY
In 1998, with a syndicate including well known Barossa winemakers Peter Lehmann and Ivan Limb , Barry Woods established the Ebenezer Vineyard in the historic Ebenezer region of the Barossa Valley.
Situated in the Northern regions of the Barossa Valley in the area known as “the Golden Mile” the Ebenezer Vineyard is in close proximity to one of the Vineyards from which fruit is taken for the Grange.
The soil is characterized by deep red loam over a gravelly base. This allows for good moisture retention without the risk off water logging.
The trellis system is based on the two wire vertical system with vertical shoot positioning to allow for the correct balance of sun exposure to maximize flavour and all the fruit is machine harvested..
It is a superb 100 acre vineyard with approximately 80% Shiraz, 15% Cabernet and 5% merlot.
MT TOOLLEEN VINEYARD - CENTRAL VICTORIA
Early in 2001, trusts associated with Barry Woods and Duncan McKenzie bought 205 acres of prime vineyard land at Toolleen in the Heathcote Geographic Indication region (the appellation). Heathcote is quickly gaining a reputation, nationally and internationally, for its outstanding Shiraz.
The site of the vineyard is extremely picturesque, as it rises to the top of the Mt William Fault line at Toolleen, from where there are stunning 360 degree views. The land is 100% Cambrian soil (known locally as Heathcote greenstone) and has good underground water. In 2002, 17 acres of Shiraz was planted.
The better wines from the Region are produced from grapes grown in the Cambrian soil and land containing Cambrian soil is highly sought after by winemakers. The Cambrian soil runs in two parallel lines starting approximately 5 km south of the Heathcote township and extending north to the end of Lake Cooper. This rich soil runs parallel to the Mount William Fault Line in a narrow band up to approximately 2 km wide and is not continuous, it occurs in varying size pockets.
